19.05.2023

A great fight over seconds with team-mate Yoann Bonato

The 58th edition of Rallye Antibes - Côte d'Azur has got off to a wet start, with rain adding to the challenge of the World Class stages on the mountains overlooking the French Riviera.

Fastest in the first two tests, the crew of Hugo Margaillan codriven by Laëtitia Marsault mastered the difficult conditions, with their Citroën C3 Rally2, to hold a 3.8 second lead at the mid-day break over their team mates, Yoann Bonato and Benjamin Boulloud. The winners of the 2022 edition set the best time on stage 3, are second and closing up on the leaders while pulling away from the rest of the field.

In third place, Nicolas Ciamin with Yannick Roche on a Volkswagen Polo; after being 2nd in the morning's opener, they lost some time in the other stages but hold on to the third podium step.

The 2019 TER – Tour European Rally Champion, Luxembourg's Steve Fernandes codriven by Belgian Florian Volvert was 4th fastest in both the opening stages. Despite a mechanical issue in the third test, he hangs on to 4th. Two crews with Škoda Fabias follow: 2019 TER – Tour European Rally runner-up, German Stefan Göttig codriven by Michaela Alexy is having a nice fight with series newcomers Aldo Calabrini and Stefano Tiraboschi. On another Fabia, Germans Thomas Lorenz with Tim Rauber had got off to a good start, sitting in 5th after 2 stages: the time lost on the 3rd test makes them drop down to 8th.

Driving a Renault Clio Rally5, Pierre Paul Baltolu and Margot Dupuy lead the TER Junior, and are 7th overall.

All to play for in the TER 2WD category: Allison Viano codriven by Christelle Bou-Meunier on a Renault Clio Rally 4 is leading over Dirk Schram and Antonello Moncada's Peugeot 208 Rally 4.
