Somaschini tames Greek Tarmac to take historic maiden TER – Tour European Rally victory in Rally Fthiotidos

2-time TER Ladies Trophy winner takes top TER podium step in Lamia and climbs into the Series’ lead.
Rachele Somaschini made history by taking a maiden TER – Tour European Rally victory in the 2024 Rally Fthiotidos. The 2-time TER Ladies Trophy winner, codriven by Nicola Arena on a Citroën C3 Rally2, went into the lead after the opening stage of the second day of competition, on Sunday.
In a tight fight over seconds with her opponents, Somaschini secured victory after two days of fierce competition on the challenging and extremely hot tarmac stages of the Greek event, a new entry in the 2024 edition of the newest concept of Rally series.
Driving a Renault Clio Rally3, Nikos Komnos and Nikos Kontos were in a nice fight for the win; losing over a minute in the final stage, they managed to hold on to second place ahead of Epaminondas Karanikolas’s Ford Fiesta Rally3, which he shared with Giorgios Kakavas.
Leading the TER – Tour European Rally standings after the opening day, Nikolaos Zahos and Elias Panagiotounis’ Citroën C3 Rally2 retired on Sunday morning, sharing evil fate with the Hellenic Police Racing driver Ioannis Plagos, whose Peugeot 208 Rally4 was forced to retire in the 2nd stage.
In the Overall Standings of Rally Fthiotidos, Eleftehrios Aligizakis and Mihalis Chatzidakis led from start to finish with a Skoda Fabia, ahead of the sister car of Ioannis and Evangelos Akratos, while Somaschini-Arena completed the overall podium.
After Round 4 of the 2024 TER – Tour European Rally season, Rachele Somaschini is the new series leader with 47 points, ahead of Paolo Raviglione (41). Yoann Bonato, Nicolas Cabanes Gomez and Alejandro Cachon are tied in 3rd at 33 points.
The TER – Tour European Rally will be back after the summer break; Rally Terra Sarda, based in Sardegna, in the Gallura and Costa Smeralda areas, will take place from October 4th to 6th, and
will be decisive for the title fights in the TER Historic and TER Series, the World Series of the TER.
The 2024 TER – Tour European Rally will celebrate its final round in the great background and challenging gravel roads of Azores Rally, on 15-16 November.
